On a grey cloudy day when small patches of blue would break through the sky my Grandma used to say, “there’s enough blue sky to make a pair of sailors trousers.” The phrase comes from an old country saying that when there is enough blue sky to cut out bell bottomed breeches the worst of the storm is over. It’s the promise of fairer weather ahead, though perhaps said with more optimism than accuracy.
