Hello
Thanks for being here.
Late to the Party started as a series of interviews and essays about navigating neurodiversity as an adult but it’s evolving.
First and foremost …
It’s a Podcast.
The premise for the podcast is simple; I wanted to share my experience with you and invite others to do the same. To create and hold the space for nuanced conversation with adults who were diagnosed later in life.
I’m tired of the lack of nuance.
We’re either invited to pawn out our trauma or required to assemble like the avengers with our “superpowers”. Surviving or thriving. But what about the bits in between?
I’m much more interested in those bits in between. The “still figuring it out” not yet arrived liminal space where we don’t have all the answers but we’re letting life unfold within the questions. And boy, do we have a lot of questions.
Neurodiversity is kind of the ice breaker but there is so much more to unravel; from alcoholism to adventure playgrounds, self-confidence to spider-man.Mistakes and revolutions. It’s truthful, beautiful, ugly too. Human.
I have always felt that there is something inherently tender about sharing parts of yourself with another. But there’s also something very powerful about being listened to, really listened to and listening. It can feel like a bit of a novelty, especially to those of who were late diagnosed, so it means a lot that you’re interested in listening now.
But I’m still going to be sharing writing from time to time
about my personal experience of being a person on the planet who happens to have ADHD, not just the ADHD specific experience.
I hope you’ll stay around.
